The WWE Bounces Back In 2011 With Big Names

It’s been a tough year for the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) as well as the sport of sports entertainment in general. First, the WWE loses one of its main eventers (Adam Copeland, a.k.a. Edge) to retirement because of life-threatening medical problems, and then wrestling loses one of its sure-thing Hall of Famers, “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

However, the WWE brand is still going strong, touring across the nation with its touring products RAW, Smackdown, multiple Pay-Per-View events, as well as a Live Tour and K-Mart tour. WWE is popular the world over, and continues to create touring events with big wrestling names like John Cena, Mark Henry, Kane, and Rey Mysterio. Much of the in-ring competition is dominated by new faces who have quickly earned main-event status, like Randy Orton, Sheamus, Sin Cara and The Miz.

Of course, wrestling enthusiasts will be most excited to hear about the return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to WWE shenanigans. The Rock appeared on Monday Night RAW back in February of 2011 for the first time in seven years. Naturally, you cannot have The Rock return to the “squared circle” without building up to a feud with top name talent John Cena. The Rock has been insulting Cena ever since his return, and has even taken the feud to the social networking forum. (Why not? Everyone else uses social media to backbite and flame war!)

The Rock’s Cena-related insults are classics, as The Rock has referred to the white rapper superstar a “homeless power ranger”, “Vanilla Ice” and a “big fat bowl of Fruity Pebbles.” This feud is destined to be a crowd pleaser, as The Rock and John Cena are the two best “talkers” in the business, and have already agreed to a match for Wrestlemania XXVIII in 2012. In the meantime, expect the WWE to escalate the feud by keeping the tensions between these two behemoths simmering.

What do you think about the WWE in 2011 and 2012? How much of a presence will The Rock be and what other creative names will he come up with for Cena?
