The Wallflowers are part of Dylan’s legacy, though music fans have come to respect the Wallflowers for their own unique sound. The Wallflowers are most famous for their 1996 album Bringing Down the Horse. The album’s stand out song was “One Headlight”, which won the band two Grammy awards.
Other hits you may have nodded along to as they played on the radio included “6th Avenue Heartache”, “The Difference”, and “Three Marlenas”. More albums followed, and while the band never “split up” officially, they did decide to take a break to pursue their own things for a while. That short while quickly turned into a seven-year hiatus, which left fans wondering if they’d ever hear a new song by the band again. The big news for Wallflowers fans is that the band is back and better than ever with their newest album “Glad All Over”, which was released on October 9, 2012! A new album also means plenty of touring.
The founding members are here, Jakob Dylan brings his smart lyrics and soulful voice, Rami Jaffee is still pounding it out on the keyboards, and bassist Greg Richling is still keeping the beat on base. Stuart Mathis and Jack Irons are fairly new faces, but have filled the roles nicely and certainly have kept up the original vibe of the band. The first single off the album is entitled “Reboot the Mission” was given to fans free on The Wallflowers website in July 2012. “Love is a Country” is the next single off the album. Both received positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Many are stating the original sound from “Bringing Down the Horse” is back on this album, to the point that this could be considered part two.
The band is currently wrapping up their first tour for their new album. Don’t fret if you missed their first tour, as they have already announced spring tour dates. Starting on March 14, 2013 the band will be touring across the US along with singer Eric Clapton. They will be making stops in Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and many more states along their way. Hear your old favorites like “One Headlight” sung live and in person, as well as all the newest songs off of “Glad All Over”. Check tour dates online and see if the band is coming to your hometown.
Come see Jakob Dylan, already a music legend!
